Conseil de parent expert
Play the first few minutes alongside your child and ask: 'Why do you think Aino turned herself into a fish? How do you think she was feeling?' Use the story as a springboard for a conversation about boundaries and consent.

The central named female character, Aino, exists primarily in relation to Väinämöinen and has no meaningful interaction with another named female character.
Conseil de parent expert
Pausing to discuss Aino's perspective deepens the empathy and ethical-reasoning benefits of the game, transforming a passive story moment into an active lesson about respecting others' feelings — one of the developer's own stated intentions.
Ce que votre enfant développe
Kalevala is a thoughtful indie adventure rooted in genuine cultural heritage — Finnish and Karelian epic mythology — giving children a rare window into a non-mainstream literary tradition. The puzzle-based boat-building mechanic asks players to experiment and think laterally, while the narrative framing around consent and emotional boundaries is unusually mature and prosocial for a game of this type. The developer's explicit note that 'you should respect other people's feelings' turns the sad story of Aino into a meaningful ethical teaching moment. Reading comprehension is exercised through the story text, and the distinctive ellipsoid art style (inspired by Gallen-Kallela's paintings) introduces players to fine-art aesthetics in an interactive context.

À propos de ce jeu
Kalevala This game is inspired by Andrew Spencer’s Ecstatica game and based on The Kalevala epic poetry from Karelian and Finnish oral mythology. I also have visual inspiration from Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s The Aino Triptych and The Defense of the Sampo pieces of art.
