Parent Pro-Tip
Encourage your child to discuss the game's narrative and challenges to process the mature themes. Establish clear play time limits, as the immersive design may make it difficult for them to stop on their own, and discuss strategies for managing resources and making tactical decisions.

Representation? How diverse the game's characters are in gender and ethnicity. Higher = more authentic representation. Display only — does not affect time recommendation.
Bechdel Test? The Bechdel Test checks whether a game has at least two named female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man. A simple measure of representation.— Fails the test
While there are named female characters like SHODAN and Dr. Janice Polito, the real Polito is dead before the player encounters her, and the 'Polito' the player interacts with is SHODAN impersonating her, meaning there is no direct interaction between two distinct female characters.
What your child develops
System Shock 2 develops strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills as players navigate a complex environment with limited resources. Its immersive narrative and critical decision-making foster critical thinking and spatial awareness, while tense combat encounters enhance hand-eye coordination and reaction time.
